It is extremely unfortunate that French President Emmanuel Macron, made statements targeting Türkiye, along with some other countries, during his visit to Algeria.

It is unacceptable that French President Macron, who has difficulties in confronting his colonial past in Africa, especially in Algeria, tries to get rid of his colonial past by accusing other countries, including Türkiye.

Türkiye, which encourages friendship, not hostility, and is among the strategic partners of the African Union, develops day by day its relations with both Algeria and other countries of the African continent, and these relations based on mutual trust and win-win principle, are progressing in a manner that respects the will of the countries themselves.

If France supposes that there are reactions against it in the African continent, it should search for the source of these reactions in its colonial past and its efforts to still pursue this with different methods and it must try to repair it. To claim that these reactions are caused by the activities of third countries, instead of confronting and solving the problems related to their own past, is not only to deny a sociological phenomenon and history, but also reflects the distorted mentality of some politicians.

We hope that France will reach as soon as possible the maturity to face its colonial past without blaming other countries, including Türkiye.

No agreements were signed during the visit of the Norwegian Foreign Minister to Türkiye.

As the Norwegian citizens are unable to renew their passports as a result of the ongoing global chip crisis and upon the request of the Turkish tourism sector, a temporary arrangement will be made to enable Norwegian citizens to visit Türkiye during the 2022 tourism season.

Within the framework of this temporary arrangement, Norwegian citizens will be allowed to travel to Türkiye with their biometric ID cards, containing their personal information, for a temporary period of 6,5 months.

At the end of this period, the Norwegian citizens will be able to travel again to Türkiye with their passports only.

The remarks of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, based on Greece’s unlawful claims, at the press conference held yesterday, against Türkiye are unfortunate and regrettable.

The unfounded allegations of the German Spokesperson is unacceptable given the fact that Greece was the party that violated our country’s airspace, conducted flights over our mainland and harassed our aircraft.

We would like to remind the German Spokesperson that Türkiye is not the party that did not respond to the invitations to the bilateral and NATO Confidence Building Measures talks for a year and that declared the freezing of these talks by using the latest tension in the Aegean as a pretext.

We once again invite Germany, who claims to exert efforts for dialogue and de-escalation, not to take side in disputes between the two Allies, not to become an instrument of other countries’ unlawful actions and also not to make biased comments on areas and issues that it has no authority and responsibility.

Our citizen, Merter Keskin, passed away on January 12, 2021, while he was in custody at the Selestat city police station in France. The issue was reflected to the French judicial authorities and the investigation process still continues.

Our representations in France established close contact with the family of the deceased as soon as they were informed about the incident. They continue to provide legal and moral support to the family.

It is obvious that the latest images of the detention process in the French press do not comply with the rule of law. Within this context, we expect the causes of death of our deceased citizen to be clarified as soon as possible.

We will continue to follow the developments.

The statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece concerning the incidents that took place between the Air Forces of the two countries in the Aegean Sea on 27 April 2022 do not reflect the truth.

On 26-28 April 2022, the Greek Air Force conducted provocative flights in close proximity of the Turkish coast and repeatedly violated the Turkish airspace over Didim, Datça and Dalaman. The Turkish Air Force reciprocated to these provocative flights and violations in accordance with their rules of engagement. Given that Greece was the party that started and escalated the said tension, making unfounded allegations against Türkiye is totally incompatible with the recent positive agenda and good neighborly relations between the two countries. We expect the Greek side to put an end to its provocative rhetoric and actions and to sincerely support the Confidence Building Measures process initiated both bilaterally and within the NATO, so that such incidents do not recur in the future. There is no change in Turkey’s position towards the settlement of all Aegean disputes, including the breadth of airspace, in accordance with international law and within a framework of sincere dialogue with Greece.
